He is the author of The Invention of the Newspaper (OUP 1996), Pamphlets and Pamphleteering in Early Modern Britain (CUP 2003) and Milton's Angels: The Early Modern Imagination (OUP 2010), and the editor of various books and author of various articles on early-modern literature, history and print culture. He is presently editing Milton's Latin defences and writing a book on the history of news culture from 1400 to the present.
