Dr Paul Cavill is Lecturer in Early English in the School of English at the University of Nottingham. He has published widely on Old English literature and English place-names, including books Maxims in Old English Poetry (Cambridge 1999) and The Christian Tradition in Anglo-Saxon England (Cambridge 2004). He is currently working on The Battle of Brunanburh and its traditions in the medieval period.
