Dr Caroline Jackson-Houlston is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, UK), specialising in the Romantic and Victorian periods. She has wide-ranging interdisciplinary interests. Her first monograph, <--->Ballads, Songs and Snatches<--->, incorporated not only extensive archive research but also a living knowledge of folk song, derived from many years active practice. Other interests include gender and the relations between literature and science and natural history. At the moment she is engaged on a book on gender in Walter Scott, and future plans include another book on literary ballads.
