Caroline Jackson-Houlston

Dr Caroline Jackson-Houlston was a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, UK), specialising in the Romantic and Victorian periods. She has wide-ranging interdisciplinary interests. Her first monograph, <--->Ballads, Songs and Snatches<--->, incorporated not only extensive archive research but also a living knowledge of folk song, derived from many years active practice. Other interests include gender and the relations between literature and science and natural history. Her most recent book is <--->Gendering Walter Scott: Sex, Violence and Romantic Period Writing</--->, which appeared in 2016, the date of her retirement from full-time work. Future plans include a chapter on Scottish urban orality and poetry, and another book on literary ballads.
