Timm Menke is Professor of German at Portland State University in
Portland, Oregon. He has university degrees in German and English
from the University of Freiburg and teaching degrees from the state
of Baden-Württemberg in Germany and received an MA and a PhD in
German from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has taught
at the University of Minnesota and at Macalester College and was a
visiting fellow at New Hall in the University of Cambridge and at
the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. His publications
include four scholarly books and many articles and book reviews,
primarily on 20th century German literature. A specialist on the
German avant-garde author Arno Schmidt, he is the co-editor of IRAS
(Internet Review Arno Schmidt). The recipient of several
prestigious scholarships and grants (Fulbright, DAAD, AATG, German
Schiller Society, NEH, Goethe Institute), he teaches German culture
and literature courses from 1750 to the present.
