Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne in Australia, researching literary descriptions of ruins by British writers between 1750 and 1830. His research is focused, in particular, on the idea of the "democratic ruin", which includes descriptions of labouring-class ruins (such as ruined cottages, ruined farm buildings, deserted villages) and descriptions of "grand" ruins by labouring-class writers.
