Melanie Otto is Lecturer in Postcolonial Literatures at Trinity
College Dublin. Her main research interest is in the areas of
Caribbean and New Zealand writing. In 2003 she completed a PhD in
English at Swansea University. In 2009 she published a monograph on
the work of Kamau Brathwaite with Africa World Press. Melanie is
interested in any aspect of creolization, which she is currently
exploring in relation to the writings of Lafcadio Hearn, Jean Rhys,
and Kate Chopin. She has published articles and book chapters on
Caribbean as well as New Zealand writing and is working on a
monograph on the work of Keri Hulme.
