Eileen Jakeway

During her time as a Levine Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Eileen Jakeway developed a strong interest in the writings of religious women in early modern France and England. After spending a summer in Bamberg on a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service, this research interest grew to include medieval literature written by German mystics. Her interest in the French poet Gabrielle de Coignard has led her to be particularly curious about the Book of Judith and its various uses in both medieval religion and the revival it saw among authors during the Renaissance. Next year, Eileen will continue to pursue this research as a recipient of the Ertegun Graduate Scholarship in the Humanities at the University of Oxford.
