Judge Jeffreys conducts the 'Bloody Assizes'
Lord Chief Justice George Jeffreys conducts a series of trials known as the 'Bloody Assizes', sentencing adherents of Monmouth in the West Country who had taken part in the recent rebellion there. On 28th September, he is appointed Lord Chancellor.
