Prince Charles Edward is victorious at Falkirk
The Jacobite rebels, led by their figurehead Prince Charles Edward Stuart ('the Young Pretender'), are on the retreat northwards after penetrating as far south as Derby. Their last military victory against the Hanoverian royal army comes at the Battle of Falkirk, near Stirling.
