Isaac Asimov was a trained biochemist and careful scientific thinker who, as well as his many works of science fiction, published regular columns in SF magazines and the general press explaining the history of science and current scientific ideas. Much of this expository writing was then gathered and refined, so that along with his anthologies he had produced over 400 books by the end of his life, the majority of which were non-fiction. His greatest fame, however, is as one of the original storytellers of modern science fiction, the writer of short stories, novels and several epic series.
