In 1964, just one month before the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, George S. Schuyler wrote of the Civil Rights leader, “Dr. King’s principal contribution to world peace has been to roam the country like some sable Typhoid Mary infecting the mentally disturbed with perversion of Christian doctrine and grabbing fat lecture fees from the shallow-pated.” Schuyler’s critique of King would lead to the severing of his longstanding relationship with black America’s most popular national newspaper,
