Martin Walser has arguably been Germany’s most productive writer of international acclaim since World War II. There are few gaps in his bibliography which began in the late 1940s and early 1950s with short stories for post-war magazines and radio plays for regional broadcasters. His first book, a collection of short stories entitled Ein Flugzeug über dem Haus [A Plane Flew over the House], appeared in 1955. His most recent work, the novel Angstblüte [Angst Blossom], came out in 2006.
