Roderigo Borgia is elected Pope Alexander VI (-1503). He had been born in Valencia in 1431, studied at Bologna and served in the Roman curia under five popes. After gaining the papacy, Borgia used the tools of nepotism at his disposal to provide his children with elevated positions, and his son Cesare Borgia became commander of the papal troops.
