Cesare Borgia leaves Rome as papal legate, having renounced the priesthood in August. He carries a dispensation for the marriage between Louis VII of France and Jeanne (the daughter of Louis XI), to enable the King instead to marry Anne of Brittany, the widow of his predecessor Charles VIII.
