Cardinal Wolsey, who has been Henry VIII's chief minister for fifteen years, begins to slip from power. Indictment proceedings are brought against him in the Court of King's Bench: he is charged with receiving bulls from Rome in contravention of the Statute of Provisors, placing the Pope's authority above that of the King.
