The German city of Münster, which has been under the rule of an Anabaptist theocracy since February 1534, capitulates to the Hessian army. The Anabaptist leaders John of Leyien and Burgomaster Knipperdollinck are tortured to death, and the city is restored to the bishop, who re-establishes Catholicism.
