Sir Edward Coke, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, is removed from his post for refusing to suspend a court case in which the Crown is an interested party. The remaining eleven judges submit to royal pressure, and Coke is succeeded by Sir Henry Montague, a fervent royalist.
