Russia and Sweden sign the Peace of Stolbovo, aided by the mediation of the United Provinces. By its terms, Gustavus II recognises Tsar Michael and surrenders his capture of Novgorod. In recompense, Sweden obtains Karelia and Ingria, while Russia surrenders her claims to Estonia and Livonia. However, this is not the end of the war for Sweden, since Poland refuses to agree to a peace until November the following year.
