During the year, Britain captures a large number of colonies from other European powers. General Monkton seizes St Vincent, while Martinique is also taken on 12th February, and Grenada on 10th March, all from French possession. Havana is taken from Spain on 14th August, while on the other side of the world, Britain gains the Spain colony of Manila on 6th October.
