In 1825 Stephen Fuller Austin (3rd November, 1793 - 27th December, 1836), led the first 300 families to his settlement, the Austin Colony, honouring his dead father's ambition to colonize Texas. He is known as 'The Father of Texas' and its capital is named after him.
