James I dissolves Parliament without a single Act having been passed. The King later imprisons four members of the Commons who had opposed the Crown. In substitute for the supplies refused by the Commons, the Privy Council sends out requests for a Benevolence, which produces a total of £66,000. Court cases in the Court of Star Chamber are brought against anyone who incites others to refuse this financial aid.
