In the course of the Fourth Ashanti War, between Britain and the Ashanti Empire (in modern-day Ghana), Francis Scott takes Kumasi and imprisons King Prempeh. The Ashanti are forced to sign a treaty of protection, and the territory becomes a British protectorate.
