As a response to Libya’s role in an act of terrorism in a Berlin nightclub, President Ronald Reagan ordered a military strike on Tripoli and . The bombing of Libya was part of a larger trend of deteriorating relations between Qaddafi and the United States. The American government held that Qaddafi sponsored international terrorism and was producing chemical weapons.
