In the early 1840s John Charles Fremont (21st of January, 1813 - 13th of July,1890) explored and surveyed the American West, travelling through miles of wilderness recording botany, geology and describing locations as well as mapping them. He is particularly remembered for his mapping of the Oregon Trail.
