On the 1st of March, 1845, the Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States was approved. This voluntary annexation of the Republic of Texas to the US made Texas the 28th state. It was to lead to the Mexican War of 1846-48, as Mexico considered Texas to be part of its territory.
