Tales from Shakespear, Designed for the Use of young Persons, printed for Thomas Hodgkins, manager of the Juvenile Library owned by William and Mary Jane Godwin, was first published in 1807. Announced on the title page as the work of Charles Lamb, the two volumes contained prose adaptations of the following Shakespeare plays:

A Midsummer Night's Dream;
The Winter's Tale;
Much Ado About Nothing;
As You Like It;
Two Gentlemen of Verona;
The Merchant of Venice;
Cymbeline;
King Lear;
Macbeth
