Anonymous: The Taming of A Shrew

This play, which was entered to the printer Peter Short in the Stationers' Register on 2^nd May, 1594 and published later that year, is most probably a reworking by an anonymous author of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew . Advertised on its title page as having been “sundry times acted” by the Earl of Pembroke's servants - a company of actors known to have been operating in 1592-3 and to which Shakespeare may briefly have belonged - it is one of a number of plays owned by the company and related to plays by Shakespeare that came into print shortly after the company's disastrous provincial tour in the summer of 1593. It contains some lines similar to those in Shakespeare's play as well as quotations from other plays
