Robert Bly's Loving a Woman in Two Worlds (1985) is in many ways a sequel to his previous book, The Man in the Black Coat Turns (1981); indeed, the two books are specifically connected, as is made explicit by the fact that “Fifty Males Sitting Together”, the first poem in Loving, is a revision of one of the last poems in Black Coat. Thus, if in Black Coat Bly collected poems that grew naturally out of his work with “men's groups” and that stressed “male consciousness”, in Loving he collected poems that grew out of his work with “women's groups” and that have to do with “female consciousness”.
