was published anonymously by Thomas Hookham and the Olliers, most probably in November 1817. The anonymity is thinly preserved, as initials at the end of each section reveal this volume's true origin to be a literary collaboration between Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley. In an effort to promote sales of the work, Shelley's letter of 16 December to Thomas Moore disclosed that he and Mary were the authors behind the enterprise.
