Recommended reading for Vladimir Maiakovsky
Brown, Edward J. Mayakovsky: A Poet in the Revolution. Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 1973. Print.
Recommended by Neil Cornwell
Edward J. Brown's study (of 1973) remains probably still the best all-round commentary on Maiakovsky's literary career, covering art and politics, and spanning the period from the early days of Russian Futurism to the fatal difficulties encountered by the poet (and dramatist) under Stalinism. The examination here of Maiakovsky's art and life renders the book equally impresive as an example of literary biography.
