Kathryn Ambrose

Kathryn Ambrose is currently working on her PhD thesis on the ‘woman question’ in mid- to late-nineteenth-century Russian, German and English literatures, at Keele University, under the guidance of Joe Andrew and Dave Rock. Her thesis seeks to provide a revisionist reading of the popular approach in feminist criticism of the semiotics of space, by looking instead at the semiotics of barriers.

She has a first-class degree in English and German, and she worked as a secondary school teacher for four years before returning to postgraduate study in 2005. She gained a Masters in Research degree in Russian, with distinction, in 2006.
