Marguerite Johnson

Dr Marguerite Johnson is a Senior Lecturer in Classics at The University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Her primary research and teaching interests are in ancient literature with a focus on cultural representations of gender, sexualities and the body. Related to these areas is her work on later engagements with ancient texts and traditions, particularly filmic, artistic and feminist portrayals of classical icons such as Sappho and Medea. Her research in Reception Studies also extends to modern religious and esoteric reconstructions of ancient magical beliefs as well as studies in fairy tales.
