Christopher Whitton

Dr Christopher Whitton is a Lecturer in Latin literature at Cambridge University and Fellow of Emmanuel College, where he has taught since 2007.

I work on Latin literature of the early Roman empire, especially prose and Trajanic literature, with particular interests in prose style, intertextuality and the intersection of literature and history. I recently completed a commentary on Pliny Epistles 2 for the Cambridge ‘green and yellow’ series; current projects include studies of Quintilian in Pliny’s Epistles, a monograph on Cicero’s reception in the early empire, an edited volume (with Roy Gibson) of Oxford Readings in Pliny the Younger, and a commentary (with Myles Lavan) on Tacitus Annals 14.
