David Lindley

I am a Professor Emeritus at The University of Leeds, having worked in the School of English for over 35 years.
My work has been concentrated in the Early Modern period, with particular interests in the relationship of music to poetry and drama, in the court masque, and in the intersections of literature and politics in the period.
Some principal publications have been:

Thomas Campion, 1985
The Trials of Frances Howard, 1993
(ed.) William Shakespeare, The Tempest for New Cambridge Shakespeare, 2003 (revised edition, 2013)
Shakespeare and Music, 2006
(ed.)11 court masques in The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Ben Jonson, 2012
Shakeapeare, Music and Performance edited with Bill Barclay, Cambridge, 2017
The First Quarto of The Merry Wives of Windsor,  Cambridge, 2020

I am currently working on two further editorial projects - Marston's Antonio plays for a new Oxford edition of his collected works; and, with Susan Anderson,  City Pageants of Thomas Heywood, again for an Oxford Complete Works.
