Dea Loher’s literary output dates back to 1991 and numbers over 20 plays, a collection of short stories, a novel, and an opera libretto. She is one of the most widely performed and celebrated contemporary playwrights in Germany, along with Albert Ostermaier, Roland Schimmelpfennig, and René Pollesch (Kapusta 280-297). Her dramatic works have been staged in many countries, including Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Poland, the Czech Republic, Australia, Japan, and Brazil. The characters in her hyperrealistic, panoramic, and mosaic plays call attention to those people living in misery in our social peripheries so compellingly that the writer’s appeals for change resound in audiences around the world.
