Luca Sillari was born in Genoa to a Genoese mother and a father who had moved to Genoa around the age of twenty but who was originally from the valley of Asta at the foot of Monte Cusna in the Reggio Emilia Apennines. During his childhood he spent summers in his father’s Apenninic hometown, where his family frequently attended

performances, a form of folk opera native to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in existence at least as far back as the 1700s. Today he is one of the most prolific contemporary authors of the epic

tradition, having written ten plays on subjects drawn from various sources, from local legend to chivalric epic to historical chronicle.
