Paco Ignacio Taibo II – also known as PIT II – was born in Gijón, Spain. With over 45 books published by 2010, he is one of Mexico’s most prolific contemporary writers. He is the son of María del Carmen Mahojo and the writer, journalist and film critic Paco Ignacio Taibo I. In 1958 the family emigrated from Spain to Mexico in order to escape Franco’s regime. From an early age Taibo combined his two passions, writing and political activism. He started writing fictional stories in his childhood, and as a teenager he wrote short journalistic pieces.
