In 2016 N.K. Jemisin became the first Black author to win a Hugo Award for Best Novel for The Fifth Season. When The Obelisk Gate, the second book of the trilogy, won the Hugo for Best Novel in 2017 and then The Stone Sky, the final book of the trilogy, won in 2018, Jemisin became the first author ever to win three Best Novel awards in a row. Jemisin has published a number of short stories, two trilogies, a duology, and a short story collection, along with numerous articles and reviews. Her writing is particularly relevant.
