Cornélio Caley was born on December 8, 1942 in a village in the Kingdom of Bailundo, in Huambo. He participated in the 1st government of Angola, the transitional government. Currently, he works as an historian and intellectual who studies Angolan identity and the traditions and cultures from African ancestry.

The Caley family are descendant of Ekuikui II, who was the king of the Bailundo Kingdom between 1876 and 1890 and was a great symbol of anti-colonial resistance. Yet, Caley’s parents ran away from their parental roots as teenagers to join the evangelical mission. Caley grew up in Bailundo, a Protestant village founded in 1881 by missionaries from the United States of America, Canada and Switzerland.
