Children’s Literature is most broadly and loosely defined as texts written for children that are aimed primarily at amusing children, or educating them through amusing them, as opposed to the wider category of children’s books, which may include reading primers or educational textbooks which are not seen as included within Children’s “Literature”. In this sense, these definitions and distinctions carry with them questions which are parallel to the issues around the definitions and distinctions which surround “literature” in general, such as: what defines “literature”? Who decides on this definition?
