On the 10th of January, 1901 a team of oil explorers lead by Anthony Lucas (9th September 1855 - 2nd September 1921) struck oil at Spindletop near Beaumont, Texas. The 'Lucas Gusher' produced 100,000 barrels of oil a day and word of these incredible levels of productivity helped to launch the Texas Oil Boom.
