The Battle of Bemis Heights, New York, fought on the 7th of October, 1777 saw the decisive defeat of British General John Burgoyne (24th February, 1722 - 4th August, 1792) and his troops. This was the second of the Battles of Saratoga, the first (the Battle of Freeman's Farm) having been fought on the 19th of September. The British losses at the two battles led to Burgoyne's surrender on the 17th of October.
