Context

Cardinal Beaton is assassinated at St. Andrews by Leslie and Kirkcaldy of Grange, leaders of the pro-English political faction, and sympathisers of the martyred Protestant preacher George Wishart. His death was the spark that ignited the Reformation in Scotland.
