The Cologne War ends in the defeat of Gebhard, Archbishop of
Cologne. He had been deposed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1583 in
response to his conversion to Calvinism, and fought to retain his
archbishopric ever since. Now he retires to Strasbourg, giving up
his struggle with the Papacy.
