Kasimir Felix Badeni, Minister-President of Austria, passes a law that grants the Czech language equality with German in the region of Bohemia. He does so in an attempt to pacify the nationalist Czechs, but provokes anger from the local Germans, who now feel discrimated against since most of them do not speak Czech.
