In the course of the Second Boer War, the British suffer a
defeat at Stormberg. This is to be the first of three humiliating
defeats in a single week, with the Battle of Magersfontein the
following day, and the Battle of Colenso on 15th December. As a
result, this week comes to be known as 'Black Week' for the
British.
