The "Good Parliament", so called because it aimed to purge the perceived corruption of the royal court at this time, met in the final complete year of Edward III's long reign. By this time, the elderly king was felt to be subject to bad influences, particularly from his mistress Alice Perrers, and from councillors Richard Lyons and William Latimer. The latter became the first person ever to be impeached by the English Parliament. The period of the Good Parliament also saw the death of the heir to the throne, Edward III's eldest son, the Black Prince. His young son Richard was hailed by the Members of Parliament and pronounced the new heir.
