Russia, Britain, Prussia and Austria form Quadruple Alliance in support of Turkey and by treaty of London offer Mehemet Ali Egypt, as hereditary possession, and southern Syria for life, provided he gives up Crete and northern Syria (but he refuses in hope of French aid).
