John Pemberton (8th July , 1831 - 16th August , 1888) formulated Coca-Cola in 1886 in response to prohibition and the need to produce a non-alcoholic version of his French coca wine. The first sales of Coca-Cola were at Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia in May 1886, where it was sold as a medicinal drink.
