Demonstration of the True Relationship of the Philosophy of Nature to the Revised Fichtean Doctrine

is a curious document: part book review (of the three books published by J. G. Fichte in 1806), part extension of F. W. J. Schelling’s own identity philosophy and philosophy of nature, and part polemical confirmation of the permanent break between the two philosophers. As such, it is of considerable interest as the final public chapter in the complex and often stormy relationship between the two. It also illuminates retrospectively some of the issues explored in their famous correspondence.
